Flat washers distribute bearing pressure and protect surfaces. Spring washers use spring action to resist vibration loosening. Both are often used together in high-vibration applications.

Tooth lock washers bite into the contact surface to prevent rotation. External teeth suit larger contact areas; internal teeth suit narrow spaces or small-head bolts. Effective on painted and plated surfaces.

Use when electrical insulation is needed, to prevent galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals, or to protect mating surfaces. Manage tightening torque carefully due to their lower strength.
