Parallel Keyway Spec Table

Parallel Keyway KS Specifications — 12 sizes
KS B 1311

Dimension table for keyways machined into shafts and hubs to accept parallel keys. Groove depth is specified per key section (b×h).

Practical Notes

  • Shaft keyway depth (t1) + hub keyway depth (t2) = key height (h). If this relationship is wrong, the key is loose or assembly fails.
  • End mill machining creates rounded keyway ends. Use Type A (round-ended) keys for interference-free assembly.

Selection Guide

Dimension table for key insertion grooves in shaft and hub. Shaft keyway depth (t1) + hub keyway depth (t2) must match key height (h). Choose between end mill machining (closed) and disc cutter (open); end mill produces rounded keyway ends.

Key Features

  • Shaft keyway depth (t1) and hub keyway depth (t2) specified separately; must sum to key height h
  • End mill machining (closed) or disc cutter machining (open) options
  • Per KS B 1311; keyway dimensions standardized for shaft diameter range 6–500 mm

Key Applications

Motor shafts, reducer output shafts, pump shafts, machine tool spindles, industrial fan shaft keyway machining

FAQ

Are shaft and hub keyway depths the same?

No. Shaft depth (t1) + hub depth (t2) = key height (h). E.g., key height 7mm → shaft 4mm + hub 3.3mm (hub is slightly shallower).
