Gray Cast Iron Spec Table

Gray Cast Iron KS Specifications — 2 sizes
SPS-KFCA-D4301-5015

Gray cast iron (FC) with good castability and vibration damping, used for machine tool beds, cylinder blocks, and flywheels.

Practical Notes

  • Excellent vibration damping — used for machine tool beds and cylinder blocks. 10× the damping of steel.
  • Low tensile strength and brittleness make it unsuitable for impact loads. Use ductile iron (FCD) for impact applications.

Key Features

  • GC (FC) series; flake graphite distribution provides excellent vibration damping and machinability
  • FC200 (tensile 200 MPa) / FC250 / FC300; compressive strength is 3–4× tensile
  • Good molten metal fluidity enables complex shape casting; however, ductility and impact values are very low

Key Applications

Machine tool beds/columns, engine blocks, brake discs/drums, pump housings, valve bodies

FAQ

Difference between FC200 and FC250?

Numbers indicate minimum tensile strength (MPa). FC200→200MPa, FC250→250MPa. FC250 is stronger but FC200 has better castability. FC250+ for machine tool beds.
