Clearance Fit Spec Table

Clearance Fit KS Specifications — 4 sizes
KS B 0401

A clearance fit where a gap always exists between shaft and hole, applied where rotation or sliding motion is needed.

Practical Notes

  • Minimum clearance must exceed lubricant film thickness even in clearance fits. Too-small clearance breaks the oil film, causing seizure.

Selection Guide

Always maintains clearance for free rotation or sliding. Common fits: H7/f6 (sliding), H7/g6 (precision running), H11/d11 (loose). Used for bearing outer ring to housing, sliding guides, piston-cylinder. Provides space for lubricant film formation.

Clearance values are for the φ18–30 nominal size range (ISO 286); other ranges differ.

Key Features

  • Shaft tolerance zones e–h + hole zones E–H; always guarantees positive clearance
  • Representative fits: H7/f6 (sliding), H7/g6 (precision running), H11/d11 (loose running)
  • Provides space for lubricant film; allows movement without seizure during thermal expansion

Key Applications

Sliding bearing shafts, hydraulic cylinder pistons, gearbox floating shafts, linear guide rails, pulley bores

FAQ

Difference between H7/g6 and H7/f6?

H7/g6 (precision running) has smaller clearance for precise sliding. H7/f6 (sliding fit) has larger clearance for rotating motion requiring adequate lubrication.
