Cold Work Tool Steel Equivalent Chart

Cold Work Tool Steel KS Specifications — 1 sizes
KS D 3753

SKD11 (KS/JIS) = X153CrMoV12 (DIN) = D2 (ANSI): equivalent cold work die steels. Extremely high wear resistance; the global standard material for cold press dies.

Practical Notes

  • SKD11 offers excellent wear resistance — standard for blanking and bending dies. HRC 58–62 after quenching.
  • Watch for residual stress cracking after wire EDM. Low-temperature tempering (150–200°C) after machining relieves stress.

Key Features

  • STD11 (SKD11) representative; Cr 12% + C 1.5% maximizes wear resistance
  • HRC 58–62 after quenching; vacuum heat treatment minimizes distortion
  • Dispersed high-hardness carbides (Cr₇C₃) enable press die life of hundreds of thousands of shots

Key Applications

Press dies (punch/die), shearing blades, cold forging dies, forming rolls, precision gauges

FAQ

Difference between SKD11 and SKD61?

SKD11 is for cold dies (room-temp pressing); SKD61 for hot dies (die casting, hot forging). SKD11 focuses on wear resistance; SKD61 on thermal shock resistance.
