Snap rings (circlips) are thin ring-shaped retaining parts installed in shaft or bore grooves to prevent axial displacement of components. Two types exist: shaft rings (DIN 471 / KS B 1336) and bore rings (DIN 472), both requiring dedicated snap ring pliers. Groove dimensions must be precise; shoulder (step) retention is more appropriate for heavy axial loads.
